Erg Chegaga 4×4 Desert Excursion

Into the largest dune sea in Morocco
A full day off the asphalt, deep into the Sahara — from the palm groves of the Drâa Valley to the towering golden dunes of Erg Chegaga, with a driver-guide who was born to this desert.
Your private 4×4 leaves straight from camp and follows the last oasis road south to M'Hamid el Ghizlane, the final village before the open Sahara. From there the piste takes over: gravel plains, dry riverbeds, a nomad family's tents, and the shimmering bed of Lake Iriqui — until the horizon fills with the 40-metre dunes of Erg Chegaga, far quieter and wilder than the dunes most tourists ever reach.
You'll climb the high crests for the view, share mint tea as the light turns amber, and watch the sun drop behind an endless sea of sand before the drive home under the first stars.

Know before you go
- Bring sunglasses, sunscreen, a scarf or turban, and a light jacket for the evening chill.
- Sandals or trainers for walking on dunes; closed shoes are easier in the heat.
- Best months are October to April; in summer we start earlier to beat the midday heat.
- Suitable for families; tell us about young children or mobility needs and we adapt the day.
- Confirm dietary needs in advance — vegetarian tagines are no problem.
Frequently asked
Can we do this as a half-day instead?
Yes. The half-day option reaches the nearer dunes and a nomad camp without the full Chegaga crossing — ideal if you arrive late or travel with small children. Just tell us when you book.
Is the overnight camp included?
No — the standard excursion returns to Taragalte Park the same evening. You can add a night at a desert camp with dinner, Berber music and breakfast as an option.
How do we book and pay?
Send your dates and group size on WhatsApp. Our family replies personally with availability and a tailored quote. No prepayment is required to hold a date.
